Dr. Robert J. Marzano is Director of Research for Pathfinder Institute, a non-profit educational research corporation. He earned his B.A. degree (1968) in English from Iona College, his M.Ed. degree (1971) in reading and language arts from Seattle University, and his Ph.D. degree (1974) in curriculum and instruction from the University of Washington, Seattle. He also was an associate professor at the University of Colorado.

Dr. Marzano has developed numerous programs and practices that translate research and theory in cognition into instructional methods. During his 32 years in education, he has authored more than twenty books and written hundreds of articles and chapters in books on such topics as reading and writing instruction, thinking skills, performance assessment, curriculum design, and school reform.
